How to Get to Bohol: Flights, Ferries and Which Port to Use

Independently researched. Last checked 12 August 2026. Schedules change. Confirm the day’s departure before you travel.

Two clean arrivals cover almost every first trip: fly into TAG on Panglao, or take a fast ferry into Tagbilaran. Everything else is a variation for the north coast or an onward-island route.

30-Second Answer

You are coming from Practical arrival Then
Manila / Clark / other PH cities by air Bohol–Panglao Airport (TAG) 10–25 min to Alona; 25–45 min to Tagbilaran
Cebu City Fast ferry Pier 1 → Tagbilaran (~2 hrs) Port is in the city, not on Panglao
Siquijor OceanJet → Tagbilaran (~2 hrs) Same port
Dumaguete OceanJet → Tagbilaran (~2 hrs) Same port
Cebu, heading to Anda / north Bohol Getafe (OceanJet) or Tubigon (FastCat) Longer land transfer; not the Panglao default

Official OceanJet fares (10 July 2026): Cebu ⇄ Tagbilaran ₱880 tourist / ₱1,320 business · Tagbilaran ⇄ Siquijor same · Tagbilaran ⇄ Dumaguete ₱990 / ₱1,540. Terminal fees extra.

Choose the arrival that matches your base

Where you sleep should decide how you arrive — not the other way around. Where to Stay in Bohol is the area page.

  • Panglao / Alona — TAG is on the same island. A Tagbilaran ferry still works; budget 30–50 minutes by van, tricycle charter or limited Grab.
  • Tagbilaran — ferry wins. Useful for a dawn departure the next day.
  • Anda — TAG or Tagbilaran plus a 2–2.5 hour land transfer. Getafe can be smarter if you are already on a Cebu–Getafe boat.

There is no traditional taxi fleet. GrabCar is limited to Tagbilaran–Dauis–Panglao. Airport and port transfer booking links stay off this page until a matching partner is supplied.

Option 1 — Fly into TAG

Bohol–Panglao International Airport (TAG) opened in 2018 on Panglao Island. It replaced the old Tagbilaran Airport. The code stayed TAG, which still confuses people into thinking they will land in the city. They will not.

As of August 2026, published domestic service commonly includes Cebu Pacific and PAL Express from Manila. Secondary cities and charters change. Philippines AirAsia Manila–TAG has been reported as ending 30 September 2026 — check the booking engine, not this sentence.

International service is mostly seasonal or charter. Most foreign visitors still enter via Manila or Cebu, then hop.

Option 2 — Fast ferry from Cebu

Highest-volume sea route.

  • Operators: OceanJet and SuperCat are the usual fast craft. Lite Ferries is slower. FastCat serves Tubigon, not Tagbilaran.
  • Time: about 2 hours Pier 1 ⇄ Tagbilaran.
  • OceanJet tourist fare (official 10 Jul 2026): ₱880. Business ₱1,320.
  • Cebu → Getafe: official tourist ₱495 — north Bohol, not a Panglao shortcut.

A same-day Cebu–Bohol–Cebu countryside dash exists. It is a long day. Overnight is the more honest short trip.

Option 3 — Ferry from Siquijor

This is the SiquiRide network hop.

OceanJet Tagbilaran ⇄ Siquijor, official 10 July 2026: ₱880 tourist / ₱1,320 business, about 2 hours. Schedules move. OceanJet cancelled selected trips in late July–August 2026. Reconfirm.

Some older write-ups use Larena. Check the ticket.

Plan the Siquijor side with the first-hand guides:

Option 4 — Ferry from Dumaguete

OceanJet Tagbilaran ⇄ Dumaguete, official 10 July 2026: ₱990 tourist / ₱1,540 business, about 2 hours.

Useful as a Negros Oriental gateway and as a two-leg path toward Siquijor if the direct Bohol–Siquijor timing fails.

SiquiRide does not have a Dumaguete destination guide yet.

Other ports (not first-timer defaults)

Port Typical use
Tubigon FastCat / RoRo from Cebu. Vehicles. Then a land transfer south to Tagbilaran or Panglao
Getafe OceanJet from Cebu. Northern Bohol / Anda-bound
Jagna Mindanao / Camiguin connections. Longer Visayas–Mindanao routes

Do not treat these as the Panglao first-trip arrival.

After you arrive

  1. If you flew TAG and you are staying on Panglao, do not go into Tagbilaran “first” unless you need an ATM or a mall.
  2. If you ferried into Tagbilaran and you are staying on Panglao, arrange the transfer before you stand in the port heat. Hotel transfer, rainbow-plate van or Grab if the zone covers your pin.
  3. Do not plan to Grab to Carmen or Loboc. Official tourism: GrabCar is Tagbilaran–Dauis–Panglao only.
  4. Peak weeks (Christmas, Holy Week, March–May) — book the seat and the bed first.
