Getting Around Bohol: Tours, Vans, Scooters and What Grab Actually Covers

Independently researched. Last checked 12 August 2026. Not first-hand rider reports. Confirm hire rates and Grab coverage on the day.

The planning mistake is treating Bohol like Siquijor. On Siquijor a scooter is the default. On Bohol, distances and how tours are sold point to a split: independent on Panglao, organized or hired for the interior — unless you already ride at that distance.

That is a recommendation. Arrival: How to Get to Bohol. Base: Where to Stay in Bohol. What the days are for: Things to Do in Bohol. Hub: Bohol Travel Guide.

30-Second Answer

Official tourism (retrieved August 2026): Bohol does not have a traditional taxi fleet. GrabCar covers Tagbilaran–Dauis–Panglao only. You will not reliably Grab to Loboc or the Chocolate Hills.

Interior day (hills / tarsier / Loboc): shared tour or a car/van with driver.
Panglao / Alona: scooter, tricycle or Grab.
Anda / long town hops: hired vehicle or bus from Dao — not a casual scooter errand.

DOT-accredited tourist vehicles carry a rainbow plate. Ask for one when you hire.

Independent travel vs organized tours

These are different products. Do not mix the language.

Independent Organized
What you control Route, pace, photo stops Almost nothing after pickup
What you pay Vehicle + fuel + every gate fee A package. Ask what is not included
Best for Riders, families with a hired driver, repeat visitors First countryside day, solo travelers, a tight 3-day plan
Fails when You try to bus the whole classic circuit in one day You wanted two hours at the hills and got twenty minutes

The classic countryside day exists as a van product because Carmen is commonly 75–120 minutes from Panglao. Stacking that with a Balicasag boat the same day is how people ruin a short trip.

What official tourism actually says

From tourism.bohol.gov.ph — Moving Around:

  • No traditional taxi service.
  • Hotel/resort transfers meet many arriving guests at the seaport or airport.
  • Rainbow-plate vehicles are the accredited tourist option.
  • Public options: tricycle, jeepney/multicab, bus from the Dao Integrated Terminal, V-hire/GT vans, habal-habal.
  • Self-drive scooters and cars exist; a valid license is required.

GrabCar is listed as available in a limited zone: Tagbilaran, Dauis, Panglao.

That is the ceiling of what this page will claim about ride-hailing.

Mode by mode

GrabCar (limited)

Use it for TAG → Alona, Tagbilaran Port → Panglao and hops inside that triangle. Do not build a Chocolate Hills day on Grab.

Tricycle

Short hops in Tagbilaran, Alona and town centers. Research range ₱20–150 local; ₱300–500+ for port/airport charters. Agree the fare before you sit down.

Jeepney / multicab

Budget inter-town. Cheap. Waits for a load. Fine for a Panglao–Tagbilaran hop if you have time. A poor sightseeing tool.

Bus (Dao Integrated Terminal)

Long town-to-town: Carmen, Anda, the north coast. Cheapest long-distance. Pair with a local tricycle or habal-habal at the far end. Not how you do hills + Loboc + tarsier in one day.

V-hire / GT van

Faster, usually about double a bus fare, air-conditioned, leaves when full.

Habal-habal

Motorcycle backseat into barangays cars do not like. Negotiate. No luggage. Not a first-timer countryside plan.

Scooter

Research range ₱400–800 / day plus fuel. Valid motorcycle license — a car license is not that.

Realistic use: Panglao, Hinagdanan, beach hopping.
Experienced riders only: Carmen and back in a day. Heat, traffic and a tired return ride after the hills.

Self-drive car

₱1,500–4,000+ / day in current listings. Families, independent countryside, luggage. License required. Inland roads are rougher in rain.

Car or van with driver

₱3,500–5,500 / vehicle for a typical 8-hour countryside day is the advertised band. This is the first-timer sweet spot for groups of three or four: you keep the order of stops, you do not ride 90 minutes after sunset on a scooter.

Ask: overtime rate, fuel, pickup in Panglao vs Tagbilaran, which tarsier stop.

Airport and port transfer booking links stay off this page until a matching partner is supplied. SiquiRide has no Bohol rental fleet — scooter and car hire stay unlinked.

Shared countryside tour

₱800–₱2,500 per person advertised, inclusions all over the place. Wins for solos and couples on a first 3-day trip.

Always ask: hotel pickup, lunch, which tarsier sanctuary, which gate fees are extra.

Planning the inland day?
Compare countryside tours that typically include Chocolate Hills, a tarsier stop and Loboc River.

Island-hopping boat

Usually per boat (₱2,700–₱6,500+ plus sanctuary fees). Organized from Panglao / Alona. A walk-up solo rarely beats a shared trip. See the marine day on Things to Do in Bohol.

Match the vehicle to the day

Day Practical move Why
Arrive TAG → Alona Hotel transfer, Grab or tricycle charter Short, inside the Grab zone
Arrive Tagbilaran Port → Panglao Pre-arranged van or Grab 30–50 min with bags
Chocolate Hills + Loboc + tarsier Tour or driver Distance
Hinagdanan + Panglao beaches Scooter or tricycle Short, local
Balicasag / Virgin Island Boat from Panglao Not a land problem
Anda / Can-umantad Hired vehicle or bus + local hop 2.5–3 hrs from Panglao
Dawn ferry out of Tagbilaran Sleep in the city, or a pre-booked 4:30 AM transfer Do not leave this to Grab at 4 AM
