Cebu travel tips

Pair city with beach. Cebu City has no beach — pair it with Mactan.
Grab is not everywhere. Plan local transport beyond the metro.
Cash for the islands. ATMs thin out beyond the city.

Start the south early. Moalboal, Kawasan and Oslob are multi-hour drives; leave at dawn.
Book Sinulog far ahead. January's festival fills the city fast.

Reef and wildlife are not props. No touching whale sharks, turtles or coral.

Is Cebu worth visiting if I have already been to Siquijor or Bohol?
Yes, for the things they don't have — city heritage and food, the sardine run, canyoneering and the north island reefs. It's also the natural gateway between them.

How many days do I need in Cebu?
2–3 for city + Mactan. Add 2–3 for the south corridor. North Cebu islands are a separate multi-day trip.

Where should I stay in Cebu?
Mactan for the airport + beach default. Cebu City for urban and heritage. Moalboal for divers. Malapascua for thresher sharks. Bantayan for white sand.

Is Mactan the same as Cebu City?
No. Mactan is a separate island (Lapu-Lapu City) connected by bridges; it hosts the airport and the resort strip. Cebu City is the urban capital on the main island.

Can I do Cebu by scooter like Siquijor?
A scooter is great in beach towns like Moalboal, but the ~196 km island with city traffic and mountain passes is not a beginner loop. Use it as a local tool in a base.

What is the best time to visit Cebu?
January–April for drier weather. January is also Sinulog — book far ahead if you go then.

Is Cebu safe?
Cebu City is busy and generally safe with normal urban awareness. Beach towns are low-key. Use Grab or licensed taxis at night. This is not a first-hand safety audit.

Do I need to book the south experiences in advance?
In peak months, yes — whale sharks, canyoneering and Sinulog fill up. In the wet season you can often arrange things closer to the day.
