Island Gear Essentials for Your Siquijor Adventure

The Pre-Ride Inspection Checklist

Before every ride, take a few minutes to inspect your scooter. You don't need to be a mechanic or have technical experience—this simple routine is about becoming familiar with your scooter and confirming that everything appears ready for your journey.

At SiquiRide, every scooter is inspected before it is handed over to our guests. We still recommend performing your own quick check before leaving. It usually takes less than three minutes and helps you begin your adventure with greater confidence.

1. Walk Around the Scooter

Start by walking around the scooter and looking at its overall condition. Check for scratches, dents, cracked panels, loose mirrors, or anything that looks unusual.

If you notice existing cosmetic damage that wasn't discussed during the handover, let us know before leaving. Taking a few photos with your phone is also a good habit and provides a clear record of the scooter's condition when your rental begins.

2. Check the Tires

Inspect both tires for visible damage, punctures, or objects that may be stuck in the rubber. They should appear properly inflated and have enough tread for good grip.

Siquijor's roads are generally in good condition, but you may occasionally encounter gravel near rural areas, sand close to beaches, or wet pavement after tropical rain. Healthy tires provide better traction and a more comfortable ride.

3. Test the Brakes

Before riding away, squeeze both the front and rear brakes individually. They should feel firm and respond smoothly without making unusual noises.

If something doesn't feel right, don't continue your ride. Speak with the rental staff so the scooter can be checked before you leave.

4. Check the Lights and Turn Signals

Turn on the ignition and make sure the headlight, tail light, brake light and both turn signals are working properly.

Good visibility helps other road users see your intentions, especially during cloudy weather, rain showers, or evening rides.

5. Test the Horn

Press the horn briefly to confirm it works. Although traffic in Siquijor is generally relaxed, the horn is useful for communicating with other vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians when necessary.

6. Adjust the Mirrors

Sit on the scooter in your normal riding position and adjust both mirrors so you have a clear view behind you. Properly adjusted mirrors improve your awareness and reduce the need to turn your head while riding.

7. Check the Fuel Level

Confirm how much fuel you have before setting off. If you're planning a full island tour or visiting several attractions, knowing your starting fuel level will help you plan your day more comfortably.

8. Look at the Dashboard

Check that the dashboard appears normal. Confirm the fuel gauge is working and look for any warning lights that may require attention before you begin your ride.

9. Inspect Your Helmet

Your helmet should fit comfortably, fasten securely and provide clear visibility. Before starting the engine, make sure the chin strap is properly adjusted and locked into place.

10. Secure Your Belongings

Store bags, cameras and other personal belongings safely under the seat or in a secure bag. If your scooter includes a phone holder, ensure your phone is firmly attached before riding and avoid adjusting it while on the move.

One Final Check

Before you leave the rental location, make sure your helmet is fastened, your mirrors are adjusted, your route is planned, and you’re comfortable with the scooter’s controls. These small steps help you begin your ride feeling prepared and confident.

Once your inspection is complete, you’re ready to explore the island. In the next section, we’ll share a few practical tips to help you leave the rental location safely and enjoy a smooth start to your Siquijor adventure.
